When should your puppy have their first groom?
Different sources give different answers, so here is what we say: talk to your vet about timing, then call us.
Owners hear different answers. Some start with a gentle bath early. Others wait until the vaccine series is done.

What is a first groom really about?
A first groom is not a full cut. It is an introduction to the grooming routine.
We will bathe your puppy, blow them dry, trim their nails, and clean their ears. We go slowly and watch for signs your puppy is tired or scared.
If your puppy is overwhelmed, we stop, talk to you, and come back another day when they are ready. There is no rush and no pressure. Your puppy's comfort comes first.
The goal is simple: your puppy learns that grooming is safe and routine. Hands on paws feel normal. The water is warm. The dryer is loud but not scary.
By the end, your puppy has had success and you have before-and-after photos to remember it. Many puppy owners tell us their pup expects the van on the next visit and watches the window for it to arrive.
Why a mobile van is the low-contact choice for puppies
A puppy grooming in a busy salon is exposed to many dogs, many people, loud noise, and the stress of a new place. Your puppy might see other dogs barking or being handled.
Your puppy waits in a cage. Your puppy gets driven in a car. That is a lot of stress before the groom even starts.
A mobile groomer comes to your home, which changes everything. Your puppy is alone with one groomer. No other dogs. No barking room. No car ride.
You are nearby in your driveway if your puppy gets nervous. The van is heated and calm. Your puppy never sits in a cage or waits for their turn.
We start the groom when your puppy is ready.
Between every puppy, we clean and disinfect the van. Your puppy gets a fresh, safe space. That matters for a young puppy.

What happens at your door during the first visit
We arrive at your home and meet you and your puppy. We will ask about any sensitivities, what your puppy dislikes, and what you are hoping for the groom. We listen to what you have noticed at home, like whether your puppy hates their feet touched or gets scared by loud noise.
We agree on the cut together, go over the price, and then take your puppy to the van. You are welcome to stay nearby or peek through the window.
We will bathe, dry, and groom your puppy at their pace. If your puppy needs a break, we take one. If your puppy is exhausted, we finish the essentials and reschedule the rest.
Before we leave, we send you before and after photos and a short report. You will know exactly what happened and how your puppy did.
Most puppies settle faster the second time because they know what to expect. Some owners find their shy puppy comes back happy, ready, and even eager for the next visit.
How to help your puppy get ready at home
A few days before the visit, start getting your puppy used to being touched. Touch their paws, ears, and face gently, the way a groomer would.
Brush them a little, even if they do not need it yet. Play with their toes. Make it normal and rewarding.
If touching their feet makes them jump, practice a little each day until it feels casual.
Take your puppy for a walk before we arrive. A tired puppy is a calmer puppy.
Tell us what your puppy dislikes when you book: loud sounds, their paws handled, their face touched, water on their head. We will take your lead and go extra slowly on the things that worry your puppy.
The more we know beforehand, the better we can plan.
What does a puppy's first groom cost?
Our Full Bath starts at $99 and Full Grooming starts at $110. Puppies are often smaller, so the price depends on your puppy's size when we meet them.
A tiny puppy sits on the lower rows. A golden retriever puppy sits higher. We tell you the starting price when you book.
We confirm the final price at your door once we assess your puppy. No surprises. We take card or cash at the van. Plus HST.
The price includes the bath, blow-out, brush-out, nail trim, ear cleaning, cologne, and a fresh accessory.
If your puppy needs extra time because they are nervous, or if their coat is matted or tangled, we will tell you the add-on cost before we start. Knots fee is from $20 per 20 minutes if needed.
Most first-time puppies do not have knots yet, so this usually does not apply.
Puppy grooming in Oakville
Oakville is our home base. Our vans park, fill, and roll out from Oakville every morning, so Oakville is the shortest drive we make.
We cover Bronte, Glen Abbey, River Oaks, Old Oakville, Joshua Creek, Kerr Village, and Clearview. If you are in one of these neighbourhoods, we are your neighbours too.
Most Oakville driveways are easy for the van. We park right at your door on quiet streets. On busier roads, we find a curb spot nearby.
Depending on the area, a travel fee may apply. We tell you before we book.
You can book any day of the week, 7 days a week, 9:00 to 6:30. The van is heated and the water is warm, so winter or summer, your puppy stays comfortable from start to finish.
Snow, rain, or shine, we show up.
How often do puppies need grooming?
That depends on your puppy's breed and coat. Some owners groom every 4 to 6 weeks. Others wait 8 to 12 weeks between visits.
It is not a rigid schedule. A lab puppy with short hair has different needs than a poodle puppy with curly hair.
At your first visit, we will suggest a schedule based on your puppy's breed and coat. We also show you what brushing at home actually helps prevent matting.
A doodle puppy, for example, mats faster than a lab puppy, so the routine will be different. We give you honest guidance based on what we see.
Many new owners find a rhythm within the first two or three visits. We offer your next appointment before we leave, so staying on schedule is simple.
