Can dogs be groomed in the winter?
Yes. Winter is often when dogs need grooming most. Salt and slush pack into paw pads and between the toes. Mats tangle faster under a winter coat.
Indoor heating dries the skin. A regular groom keeps your dog clean and comfortable all year.
Winter also hides things owners do not always see until a groomer points them out. Salt hardens the fur on the paws. Mats form faster when a thick winter coat lives in a warm house.
Dry indoor air can leave the skin flaky. We notice, we tell you, and your vet takes it from there if needed.
Mobile grooming works especially well in winter because your dog goes straight from your home into a warm van and back. No outdoor wait, no cold car ride, no wet dog shivering on the drive.
The whole visit happens in a heated space. You stay home and can peek through the window.
How does the van stay warm in freezing weather?
The van has real heating, so the inside stays warm no matter what it is like outside. The water is heated on board, so the rinse is never cold.
Everything runs off the van's own power and water. We bring what we need and leave your home untouched.
Between the bath and the cut, your dog is dried fully inside the van. No wet dog steps out into the cold. By the time we bring your dog back to your door, the coat is dry and warm, and the walk is only a few steps.
We do not need to plug into your house, run water from your tap, or use your power. You just need to clear a spot near your door where the van can park, and we handle the rest.
What if it snows on the day of my appointment?
If the roads are not safe, we call you and book another day. Your dog's safety and ours come first.
On regular snowy days, we still come. If you can clear a spot near your door for the van to park, that helps us a lot.
If your driveway is buried or your street is blocked, let us know and we find another spot nearby, or we rebook.
Should I keep my dog's coat longer in winter?
That is up to you. Some owners keep the coat longer for warmth, especially if their dog plays outside a lot. Others prefer a shorter cut all year, since most dogs live indoors and longer coats mat faster.
The real question is brushing. A longer coat needs more brushing at home, especially in winter.
If you brush daily and your dog loves the snow, keep it long. If brushing feels like a chore, a shorter cut is easier to manage.
Talk it through with your groomer at the door. If your dog has a double coat, like a Golden Retriever, Husky, or German Shepherd, we go coat by coat.
A double coat does its own job of keeping heat in and cold out, so we talk before any clipping.
The Double-Coat Full Service starts at $140, plus HST, and includes a shed-control bath and deshedding: the loose undercoat comes out, the coat stays.
What about winter paws, nails, and salt?
Salt is hard on paws. It dries the skin between the toes and hardens the hair, so mats form faster.
A warm bath rinses the salt off, and a Full Bath includes nails and ears. We work between every toe and pad.
Nails matter more in winter. Shorter winter walks mean your dog gets less natural wear on the nails. Long nails change how a dog stands and walks.
A nail trim is part of every Full Bath.
Nail grinding is $25 and leaves the edges smooth. Either way, a regular bath keeps salt and grit from building up.

How often should I groom my dog in winter?
That depends on your dog's breed and coat. Curly coats mat faster, and many doodle owners book every 4 to 8 weeks.
Short-haired dogs can often go longer. Double coats need regular care so mats do not build under the winter coat.
Winter can speed things up. More time indoors in heated air, more salt on the paws, and a thick coat that mats faster.
Grooming matters more in winter, not less.

What should I do before a winter visit?
Not much. If you can, clear a spot near your door where the van can park, and a path from your door to the van. A quick walk before we come helps your dog settle.
Keep your dog inside until we knock. There is no need to towel off wet paws or brush out slush first. We start with a warm bath, so a bit of snow on the coat is fine.
Tell us when you book if your driveway is on a hill, or if the plough tends to block your street. The driver plans the stop around it.
Rain, snow, or shine, the visit itself looks the same as it does in July.
